You have lots of repeat customers, why do you think people call on you again for subsequent projects?
"Because of good experiences they had on previous projects with us. We are very transparent from concept to completion, and they appreciate the way we communicate."
What are your ties to the area and why do you continue to work in and around the tri-cites?
"We live here and we work here. This is our community and we take the responsibility of having it be it’s best very seriously. We appreciate the opportunities to shape our community with what we build and in the relationships we make.”
What makes you uniquely qualified for remodeling and new construction in the medical and dental office space?
"Our project managers alone have well over 75 years of combined construction experience in the medical and dental space, completing over 250,000 sf. We have also developed and maintained great relationships with the dental supply companies. In addition to careful consideration for waiting area and facilities layout, TriCon Builder's construction teams are very adept at overcoming the challenges of running supply lines and electrical to all the termination points in the operatories while maintaining 1/4" tolerances."
You use the design-build methodology in your process. How does this benefit the person hiring you for the job?
"It’s much more of a team-oriented approach (owner, architect, contractor) that allows us to work together to create a functional design with meaningful costs and scheduling expectations. You can see more detail around the design-build methodology on the Our Approach page."
You offer “land acquisition to certificate of completion” services. How is this different than some other contractors?
Choosing the right piece of property, to suit the desired end result, is the most important decision an owner can make. Because of our land development experiences, we can work with the property owner to identify property that best fits the location, zoning, grading, parking, and accessibility needs. We offer true "turn-key" services for someone with a piece of property and the desire to develop it for a specific end result.
What makes you uniquely qualified in historic building renovation?
First, understanding that every historical building is unique. There is no standard to follow with historical renovation but, having experience working in multiple, 80+ year old buildings has better prepared us to be able to maintain the structure's historic integrity and provide a functional space for our clients.
Are you licensed, insured, and bonded?
We maintain an unlimited contractor’s license in Virginia and Tennessee (which requires the contractor to show $300,000 in both working capital and net worth; experience, and an audited financial statement). We also carry workers' compensation, general liability and builders risk insurances and can provide bid and performance/payment bonds as needed.

Meet the Team
Raymond McBride - President
The company is owned and operated by Raymond McBride. Raymond has over 20 years of construction experience in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia and has been directly associated with over 200 million dollars of projects. He is a graduate of East Tennessee State University with his B. S. in Construction Engineering Technology and Masters in Business Administration (MBA). In 2014, he was awarded 40 Under Forty for business success and achievements as an active member of the community. Raymond currently sits on the board of directors for the Summit Leadership Foundation. Raymond and his wife Susan live in Johnson City with their three children.
Odell Cash - VP & Construction Manager
Odell has over 25 years of construction experience, managing over 200 million dollars in projects. He is a licensed contractor in the state of Tennessee and qualifying agent in Virginia, and holds an A.A.S. degree in drafting design with a concentration on architectural and structural design from Northeast State Community College. Odell and his wife Amanda live in Jonesborough, TN with their three children.
Dave Rupert - Field Operations Manager
Dave heads up our field operations for the commercial division of the construction company. He has worked in the construction industry for 30 years and was a senior superintendent for another regional contractor for 18 years. Dave oversees our “day to day” operations in the field, working directly with each superintendent at the project sites to ensure quality control measures and schedules are being met. Dave has two adult sons and he and his wife Amy reside in Johnson City.
Tom Sexton - Commercial Estimator & Project Manager
Tom has been a staple in the commercial construction community in the Tri-Cities for over 25 years. He began his career working in the field shortly after graduating from ETSU. While working for another large regional contractor, Tom quickly was promoted to estimator and eventually project manager. He has worked on many large projects in our region and specializes in medical office and hospital construction. Tom and his wife Alisha reside in Stoney Creek, TN and they have two adult children and four grandchildren.
Toby Williams - Residential Project Manager
Toby has lived in the Tri-Cities area and has worked in the construction trades his whole life. Early in his career Toby worked in the family business, one of the largest masonry contractors in the area. He was exposed to a wealth of knowledge in both commercial and residential construction. A “jack of all trades”, Toby oversees the daily operations of our residential construction division. Through his experiences, he has gained knowledge and wisdom that our customers depend on. Toby and his wife Christina reside in Telford, TN with their five children.
Adrienne Weaver - CFO
With more than 20 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping and financial services, Adrienne Weaver serves as CFO for Tricon Builders. Adrienne earned her bachelor’s degree in public health with a concentration in healthcare administration from East Tennessee State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Milligan University. A lifelong Johnson City native, Adrienne is an active member of the community, serving or volunteering with a number of organizations. In addition to her local work, Adrienne is committed to service work abroad. She currently serves as Development Director for Emmaus House Haiti. In addition, she served for four years on the Emmaus House board and has led multiple humanitarian trips to Haiti. While her home is in Johnson City, much of her heart is in Haiti.
